Critical Issues in Municipal Finance: A Summary for India

Abstract
With the help of the available literature, the paper attempts to address some critical issues in municipal finances of India. It also brings out the challenges that the urban local bodies face with respect to revenue generation and expenditure management. The main findings suggest that the process of decentralization is incomplete in India. The urban local bodies face the problems of inadequate revenue generation and expenditure shortfalls leading to poor service delivery. It also analyses the suggestions and recommendations that have been offered in the literature to cope with these challenges.
